100 injured in Jalpaiguri, West Bengal, due to a cyclonic storm
A cyclonic storm ripped across West Bengal on Sunday afternoon, resulting in at least four fatalities and over 100 injuries. Strong winds tore up trees and damaged several houses in the district headquarters and other areas of nearby Mainaguri. Rescue efforts are still in progress even though Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has left for the damaged area.
It is regrettable to learn that this afternoon's severe winds and unexpectedly high rainfall caused tragedies in several Jalpaiguri-Mainaguri areas, resulting in property damage, casualties, and the uprooting of trees and electrical poles. CM Banerjee tweeted, "Police, DMG, QRT teams, district and block administration, and others jumped into disaster management operations and provided relief."
People who are affected are currently being moved to safer areas. According to the CM, the district government would also pay compensation to the injured and their next of kin in accordance with the MCC and regulations.
"Around 166 patients with injuries arrived at the hospital; 36 of them were admitted, and three patients were brought in dead. Four people have died in all, according to BJP MP Jayanta Kumar Roy.

To deal with the storm in Jalpaiguri, West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose established an emergency cell in the Raj Bhavan.
"The Governor has communication with Delhi's Disaster Management Authority. He asked the NDMA to send more personnel and supplies in a hurry to Jalpaiguri. Additionally, the Governor communicates with the Central Home Ministry. Tomorrow, he will set up camp in Jalpaiguri and pay visits to the victims' homes and ground zero," the Raj Bhavan stated.
